It's all about the song
Brian Walstad
I can't ever remember our house not filled with music. My father played piano guitar harmonica. and my mom was a singer. My older brothers and sister also did music . So it was easy to follow in their footsteps.
I wrote my first song with a friend after school. My mom said do what you love in life and it won't feel like work. So I went to and finished art school. while I doing that I was playing music in all the bars and honkytonks. I never gave up my passion for music. I love playing live music. The give n' take of the crowd.I still work in alot of casino's in the upper midwest. I'm also trying to learn the craft of writing the elusive 3 minute art form.
A while back I wrote some songs and through a friend met Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul and Mary. He gave me some great advice. He said always finish the song. Don't abandon it . Write it with no excuses. Like…..I'll get back to this one later on…. or.. I'll wait to be inspired. A couple of cool things about being a songwriter are: You never have to retire from it. And the more you continue to write the better you get at it.
